Origin & History of Indiana Floor Inc.

Indiana Floor Inc. President and Founder, Mr. Esmaeili, moved to the United States in July 1978 with limited resources, but with big visions & aspirations. Through hard work and dedication, learning the carpet installation trade marked the beginning of a long road in the flooring industry. In the 1980s, he enrolled in college part-time, where he met his wife and took on installations as a subcontractor. He later made the difficult decision to leave his engineering career behind to support his plans for a new family. Shortly after his marriage, his first child, Hamed Esmaeili, was born.

Working full-time as a carpet installer for many years, he discovered his passion for making clients happy and refining his craft, but he knew there was more to it than he initially thought. Mr. Esmaeili found his love for the flooring trade during this process, and over time, he opened his first retail store in Burke, VA. In that first year in business, he would meet clients and do all his own installations after selling the job.

In the next decade, Mr. Esmaeili sold and opened several locations between Virginia & Maryland, offering the same excellent service and expertise. In the mid-1990s, he sold his last store, Carpet & Floor Market in Lorton, VA & Rockville, MD (currently owned by the same buyer under a new name). He then relocated to a large warehouse and incorporated INDIANA FLOOR INC to service flooring trade contractors & installers, dealers, and custom home builders to expand into the wholesale hardwood & floor covering industry.

By 1993, Indiana Floor, Inc. had opened its first wholesale location in Lorton, VA, which is now its primary headquarters hub. In the next three decades, and with the help of talented and dedicated staff, the following locations opened in this order:

• Lorton, VA
• Fredericksburg VA
• Sterling, VA
• Gaithersburg, MD
• Baltimore, MD

By 1999, the family had three children and an even bigger passion & vision for the Indiana Floors’ future. During his first son’s childhood years, Mr. Esmaeili worked relentlessly performing installations, and as Hamed grew into a young man, he exposed him to the flooring business, which became a way of life for the two of them. During the summer, Hamed would tag along at retail operations and follow his father on client meetings and consultations. Hamed’s uncle was also a big part of the retail years and exposed him to the trade.

Fast forward many years, and the expansion grew into five total locations. Today, Vice President & CFO, Hamed Esmaeili, contributes significantly to the company’s growth and success through his active involvement and strategic leadership. In 2008, Indiana Floor opened its third location, focusing on the wholesale trade of soft surfaces (carpet & sundries). Up until this point, Indiana Floor had been a completely hardwood floor and hard surfaces-focused supplier. At Indiana Floor, we strive to provide our customers with a comprehensive selection of floor coverings and exceptional experiences that draw on our vast years of skills and knowledge to support them.

Warehouses in Maryland & Virginia

Our vast inventory of flooring, sundries, accessories, and tools is unlike any other in the industry. All five locations have the same inventory, creating a more uniform stock that our clients can take advantage of, regardless of location. We also import many of our products from overseas, meaning we have access to exclusive products that no other companies offer.
